School’s Out – March’s Quick Getaways

The March school holidays is creeping up and everyone in the family deserves a break! Have a little getaway together to rejuvenate and recharge with a little fun together with your children and loved ones.

If you haven’t thought of where to go and what to do, here are 4 destinations we recommend!

WHERE: Taiwan

Taiwan-Monster-Village

What to do: There’s a lot going on in Taiwan and family activities are always on the itinerary. Visit the Xitou Monster Village for a change. This is a Japanese-style village built in 2011 and you many little (and some huge) Japanese monster statues all over this theme park. There’s a chance for an amazing selfie, we-fie or family shot every few steps you take! If you prefer something more scenic, a day trip and motorboat cruise around the clear emerald waters of Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan’s largest body of water is just for you.

Milk some cows at the Flying Cow Ranch! Do a farm tour and feed the goats, amongst other farm-esque activities along the way. This is a great experience for your children to get upclose with animals they’ll never be able to interact with in Singapore. You can also head to Shifen and release sky lanterns!

Food tip: When you’re in Taiwan, remember to visit the night markets – like the ever-popular Shilin Night Market and FengJia Night Market, the biggest and most popular night market in Taiwan. Also check out Jay Chou’s newly opened restaurant! While you may not see the pop superstar, his rooftop cafeteria would be a great conversation starter if you ever bump into him at one of his concerts! Get ready for good times and great memories in Taiwan!

WHERE: Bangkok

What to do: Bangkok is a haven for many Singaporeans – great food, attractions and one of the irresistible spots for shopaholics!

BKK-Floating-Market

Stay in Anantara Bangkok Sathorn or Centara Grand hotel at Central World. Shop at MBK, Platinum Fashion Mall, Siam Paragon Shopping Centre, or Jatujak Market. Visit the floating markets in the morning, dine by the streets or at quaint cafes for lunch.

BKK-asiatiqueSource

Head to Asiatique for a fascinating adventure on Bangkok’s very own ferris wheel! There’s plenty to do (and eat!) at Bangkok, and you’ll appreciate the soothing spa treatments and Thai massages available almost everywhere you turn. We recommend Health Land Spa – massages and spa treatments with great service, ambience and facilities!

WHERE: Cambodia

What to do: Cambodia’s iconic Angkor is one of its biggest draws. When you’re in Cambodia, you’re traveling back in time to a culturally immersive world. The famous Temple of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom’s Bayon Temple are just two of the many archaeologically important sites in Cambodia you must visit when you’re there.

Visit the Royal Palace of King Norodom, and the many temples and pagodas nearby. If you’re after a little entertainment, Central Market will indulge the shopper in you with intricate and unique items. The Naga Casino & Resort with its array of activities could keep you glued for hours.

A little nature would be great for the soul too – enjoy a river cruise or watch the sunset on Bakheng Hill. Take a traditional boat ride through one of the largest lakes in Asia, the Tonle Sap Lake.

Cambodia is a great holiday spot for families. We would suggest taking slightly older children to iconic places such as Angkor Wat. The younger ones may require more active engagement. For a luxury holiday trip to Siem Reap, check out our SG50 package!

WHERE: Hong Kong

What to do: Just like Bangkok, Hong Kong’s biggest draw for Singaporean travelers are shopping and food! The street markets and shopping streets will keep you hypnotized for days on end, so if you don’t know where to start or how to stop, plan your shopping route here!

If you’re a Hong Kong movie buff, try identifying the streets where your favourite movie scenes were shot on. Hong Kong’s boom film industry has produced many world-renowned stars, and it’s only natural you visit the Avenue of Stars at Tsim Sha Tsui.

Situated along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade near the Victoria Harbour, catch the life-sized statue of Bruce Lee, Anita Mui, and spot your favourite celebrities’ hand imprints!

The other main reason to visit Hong Kong is Disneyland! Where dreams come true, this magical place is one where your kids will tirelessly and gleefully run amok! Disney characters pepper the theme park so there are many incredible photos to take as a family. Just remember – you don’t have to go everywhere in Disneyland in one day. They have a two-day pass which could be worth your while if you can spare the time.

Remember to plan a little trip out this March! A little family vacation is always another opportunity to create beautiful memories that last forever!
